Silent film with live music performed on the organ
Saturday 26 March 2016, at 21:00 – Cagli, Church of San Francesco
Concert realized in collaboration with the Municipal Theater Institution of Cagli, Municipality of Cagli, Department of Heritage and Cultural Activities
The “Life and Passion of Jesus Christ” (France, 1903 by Lucien Nonguet and Ferdinand Zecca) is probably the first feature film known in the history of cinema, a real blockbuster of the time. The aesthetic is inspired by the gypsum cribs of the Parisian church of Saint Sulpice with twenty-seven paintings that trace the fundamental moments of the life of Jesus, from infancy to death and resurrection. With his music, performed on the historical organ of the Church, considered the oldest of the Marches (XVI century), Mario Mariani will not simply accompany the images. It will be a real organ concert that proceeds parallel to the unfolding of the story told on the screen, using the instrument as an orchestra.
