| The Art of The Trio. Taking part in Fano Jazz By The Sea for the first time, Brad Mehldau is one of the shining stars in the firmament of contemporary pianists and one who shows a deep understanding of the dynamic of the piano jazz trio, a form of expression he has developed since the 1990’s. At his side as always stands bassist Larry Grenadier and on the drums Jeff Ballard, who from 2005 took the place of his colleague Jorge Rossy, having played for years with Chick Corea. The pianist from Jacksonville, born in 1970, has developed his own unique style which he has explored to the very depths, though continues to refine; great density yet still leaving room for expression. From the five volume series The Art of The Trio to Brad Mehldau Trio Live, through Places, Anything Goes and Day Is Done (the first album with Jeff Ballard on drums) up to the recent Ode, the musical exploration of Brad Mehldau and his partners is always full of surprises, thanks also to original reworking of material from outside the confines of jazz (Nick Drake, Radiohead and The Beatles among others). Brad has also been busy in other areas, from piano solo ( such as Elegiac Cycle and the two live albums Live In Tokyo and Live In Marciac), original compositions and collaborations, with Pat Metheny and many others. | ||||
